Our class-trip to London class 9a March 2011 Our class-trip was so cool!!! We started by bus and drove to Calais (France) where we got on the ferry to Dover at night. We saw the white cliffs of Dover at sunrise and arrived in London just during the rush-hour. There are more taxis and busses than private cars in the city!!! Our hostel „Palmer's Lodge” was an old but very comfortable building. There was wireless Internet everywhere in the house, so it was easy for us to tell our parents and friends what we did during our visit. Of course we had a look at all the typical famous buildings in London, the first day by bus (three-hour-sightseeing-tour) and the other days by underground (tube). We had to visit the National History Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum which was much better than we had expected. Some of us also went to the British Museum and the National Gallery in their free time. Others went shopping in Oxford Street or Camden Market (The girls and some of the boys spent a lot of money there!!!) We also wanted to go to Harrod's, but not all of us were allowed to go in because of the guards at the entrances. At Buckingham Palace we saw someone looking out of the window and some of us still believe it might have been the Queen!!! From the Tower of London we drove by DLR (that's a train without a driver, driven by a computer program) via Canary Wharf and Docklands to Greenwich. There we visited all the places we had read about in our English book (class 5): Greenwich Foottunnel, the reconstruction of the Cutty Sark, Greenwich Market, the Royal Observatory and of course the Meridian Line. From Greenwich we made a boat-trip by hovercraft on the River Thames back to Westminster. It was a pity we didn't take a ride on the London Eye, but it was too cloudy all the days. Of course we visited Madame Tussaud's and the London Dungeon and some of us think that Madame Tussaud's is more frightening than the Dungeon. In the evenings we had a lot of fun playing cards (we needed four packs of cards). And on Thursday evening (St Patrick's Day) we went to Covent Garden which was fantastic and full of music (bad luck for those who didn't want to go there!!!). Our way back home by bus took a long time but we were in an excellent mood singing karaoke. Arrived at home we fell asleep for hours.
